About This Tour

Self-drive 4WD K’gari experience with camping. Two days allows enough time to see the unique locations K’gari has to offer. With a personalised itinerary that coincides with the low tides on 75 Mile Beach (K’gari’s Eastern Beach), you can safely drive along to see the Maheno Shipwreck and the Coloured Sands (Pinnacles), stopping at the famous Eli Creek. On a Two day hire, you can go as far north as Cathedrals on the Eastern Beach. Inland, visit Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby, and be amazed by the ancient ferns and rainforest at Central Station and take a magical walk to Basin Lake, with still plenty of time to get to the 5pm barge on day two! (earlier barge options are also available) A 280km limit applies to a 3 day hire. Mandatory Safety Briefing time: 8:15AM for the 10:15/45AM barge

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1

Day 1 — **Day One: Hervey Bay to K’gari**

Make your way to the Fraser Dingo Depot at 6 Southern Cross Circuit, Urangan, arriving in time for your **8:15am Mandatory 4WD safety briefing**. Undertake a 1-hour safety briefing prior to departure, this briefing will also provide information on to best make use of time spent on K’gari. If you plan to leave your hire car at the depot whilst on K’gari, please park it on the street and make your way to reception. A staff member will park your car for you once your check in has been completed. (If you are travelling with children under the age of 15years please see the special instructions about the safety briefing below) Make your way to River Heads where your K’gari bound barge has been booked for 10.15am. You will disembark at Wanggoolba Creek, starting your adventure as planned with the Fraser Dingo team earlier this morning. Today’s adventures will conclude at Central Station you will set up camp for the night in a Rainforest setting. **Accommodation** Camping – Pop up dome tent at Central Sation Campsite (or similar)

Day 2 — **Day Two: K’gari exploration**

A 3-day itinerary allows enough time to travel to Indian Head and Champagne Pools plus other unique locations K'gari has to offer. With a personalised itinerary that coincides with the low tides on 75 Mile Beach (K’gari’ s Eastern Beach), you can safely drive along to see the Maheno Shipwreck and the Coloured Sands (Pinnacles), stopping at the famous Eli Creek for a cool refreshing swim, then travel as far north on 75 mile beach as Indian Head. Travel inland and be mesmerised by Lake McKenzie and Lake Wabby and amazed by the ancient ferns and rainforest at Central Station and take a magical walk to Basin Lake. **Accommodation** Camping – Pop up dome tent at Dundubara Campsite (or similar)

Day 3 — **Day Three – K’gari exploration and return to Hervey Bay**

Your final day awaits, pack up your campsite before continuing your adventure making the most of the remaining time on K’gari, before heading to Wanggoolba Creek to meet the pre booked 3:00pm barge back to River Heads. Please make sure you arrive 30 minutes before departure time to complete necessary check in procedures.

Driving Information

This is a 4WD Hire experience — you drive the 4WD yourself. Please read the driving requirements below before you book.

  • Valid open manual/automatic driver licence (P2 or full). International visitors need their licence in English or an International Driving Permit.
  • K’gari is sand-only 4WD driving. No prior 4WD experience is needed for tag-along tours — your guide leads the way and briefs the convoy.
  • Zero alcohol/drug tolerance for all drivers, and standard Queensland road rules apply on the island.

The furthest north you can go on 75 Mile Beach is Indian Head, and the furthest south is Dili Village. (2-day limit is 180km and 3-day limit is 280km) OFF LIMITS: Waddy Point – Orchid Beach – Western Beaches and western beach camp zones are off limits – Hook Point and further south than Dili Village MINIMUM HIRE AGE Drivers must be 25 years or over to hire a 4WD. Note: Bookings of young adults with only one driver over 25yrs will be considered on a case-by-case request, please contact Real Adventure Group to discuss booking a group of passages of this age. Ages 12 - 80 years TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN Minimum age 12 years Children and the safety briefing: Children under 15 years of age can NOT sit in during the safety briefing, they are required to wait outside while parents are going through the instruction. Our office staff will oversee them while they complete a quiet activity if required. Ages 12 - 80 years BOND All vehicle rentals require an approved credit card security bond of AU$1000.00* before the vehicle can be released to the hirer. (Please note debit cards are not accepted for a security bond). *If clients do not take out the excess reduction the security bond will be AU$2000.00. INSURANCE Standard insurance is included in the hire, this included insurance has an excess of AU$4000.00. An excess reduction of $50.00 per day can be paid direct when picking up the 4WD, this reduces the excess from AU$4000.00 to AU$1000** **If the excess reduction is not paid when picking up the 4WD the following will apply. Bond AU$2000.00 and Excess AU$4000.00
